Who you are
We are looking for a Senior Hardware Manufacturing Process Engineer who has great expertise in enabling design and achieving a high level of manufacturing performance and quality and maintaining this level of performance throughout a product’s life. This is someone who has significant experience of working with the R & D team to enable & optimize design and defining manufacturing processes on-site at electronic manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys critical thinking and problem solving, can successfully partner with a wide variety of stakeholders and is willing to dive deep. This role will be based in Shenzhen. A significant amount of this person’s time will be spent on-site at partner contract manufacturing facilities. What you’ll do You will lead the development, validation, optimization, and documentation of production processes across both final assembly (FATP) and key components manufacturing. Led hardware assembly processes development, including but not limited to PSA activation, adhesive dispensing, heat staking, screwing, ultrasonic/laser welding, and the design of semi-auto and fully automated assembly lines. Extensive experience in the FATP process, with deep expertise in assembly technical requirements, tolerance analysis, and critical quality control points for electronic components (PCBA, modules, and mechanical parts). Led Process DFM initiatives, providing critical feedback to R&D/Engineering during the concept phase to ensure design and manufacturing feasibility and cost effectiveness. Perform deep-dive failure analysis on manufacturing-related issues. Utilize PFMEA to mitigate risks before mass production. Drive process innovation and develop MP-intent equipment. Implement continuous improvement strategies using Six Sigma or Lean methodologies to maximize yields and reduce manufacturing costs. Travel to vendor sites to lead NPI builds. Use statistical tools (such as JMP or Minitab) to analyze DoE (Design of Experiments) data and validate process stability (Cpk/PPK). Partner with Hardware Engineering, GSM, and Quality teams to identify, audit, and select contract manufacturers capable of meeting technical requirements. Minimum requirements 15+ years’ experience in manufacturing engineering, possessing knowledge of design for manufacturing, assembly process engineering Strong track record of implementing manufacturing improvements through DFM and DFx principles. Knowledge of GD&T principles and use, ability to analyze and understand part tolerance and tolerance stack up and their impact on assembly and component production. Experience leading design and implementing manufacturing jigs/fixtures and process flows. Possessing the interpersonal skills and experience needed to work with CM teams and management in a collaborative way to meet development schedules and mass-production deliveries. Working knowledge on quality management tools (e.g., six sigma, lean production, etc.) and ability to interpret quality reports. Fluency in Chinese and English.
Preferred qualifications
Mechanical design experience is strong plus Experience working in consumer electronics. Experience with POS hardware development and manufacturing including knowledge of tamper-proofing systems, and components for POS devices.
