Job Description

The Journeyman HVAC Service Mechanic serves as a key technical resource for fellow service mechanics, providing technical support, guidance, and training while ensuring the reliable operation of HVAC systems through inspections, testing, repairs, and preventive maintenance. This role is essential to maintaining the comfort, safety, and performance of the environments we service while helping elevate the technical capability of the team. Duties/Responsibilities

Demonstrates strong attention to detail and advanced diagnostic skills related to HVAC system performance. Experience with a wide range of systems, from split systems to chillers, ensures optimal system operation and performance. Coordinates work processes effectively, particularly on large projects. Provides on-site leadership by managing both overall project objectives and detailed execution to support successful completion. Utilizes hand tools, power tools, gauges, and measuring equipment with precision and expertise for troubleshooting and planned maintenance activities. Builds and maintains strong customer relationships by clearly explaining completed work and ensuring customer confidence and satisfaction. Maintains clear communication and thorough documentation to ensure all project stakeholders remain informed and aligned throughout project execution. Serves as a technical resource to others by offering support, guiding technicians, and coordinating multi-technician service calls to promote team growth and success. Participates in on-call stand-by rotation and effectively manages multiple tasks while maintaining composure under pressure. Adheres to safety standards both on the road and on job sites. Maintains tools, service vehicle, and inventory in an organized and ready state. Manages material purchasing and service vehicle stock efficiently to streamline processes and maintain smooth operations. Encouraged to be in good standing with local union 286 and willing to join

Split systems – all brands up to 120 tons Mini-split systems – up to 3-ton heat pump and all brands MultiZone VRV Heat Pump and VRV Heat Recovery Rooftop units (RTU) – all brands up to 150+ tons Water source heat pumps – all brands up to 120 tons Self-contained systems – water-cooled and air-cooled with remote condenser CRAC units – Liebert/Data Aire/Stulz

HVAC Airside Skills

Fan Powered Boxes VAV Boxes VFD theory Air Handler – theory of AHU operation and control valve operation Exhaust fans – centrifugal upblast roof fans, centrifugal inline fans, and vane axial high-pressure fans

Pumps and Piping Systems Skills

Pumps – ability to identify all components Pump and chiller configurations Flow control – automatic/circuit setter Piping – strainers and backflow devices

HVAC Chiller Skills

Air-cooled chillers – scroll/reciprocating, screw, screw with VFD, and magnetic Water-cooled chillers – scroll/reciprocating, screw, variable speed screw, and magnetic Centrifugal chiller theory

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to climb service ladders and stairs to access mechanical equipment in locations ranging from basements to rooftops Ability to work in various weather conditions, including summer heat and potentially frozen road conditions
