About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior or Staff Growth Platform Engineer to build and operate the systems that power lifecycle messaging and in-product growth experimentation across Quizlet. This role focuses on the infrastructure behind email, push, and in-product messaging, as well as the tooling that enables rapid, measurable growth experiments. You’ll work closely with Product, Data, and Engineering partners to improve activation, engagement, retention, and reactivation through reliable notification systems and fast iteration loops. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys building platform capabilities that directly shape user growth and engagement. We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position in our San Francisco office. To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office a minimum of three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe this work environment enhances efficiency, fosters collaboration, and supports growth for both employees and the organization.

In this role, you will

Own email, push, and in-product messaging orchestration infrastructure Maintain messaging decisioning logic, eligibility rules, and frequency guardrails Build and maintain systems that support lifecycle programs across activation, engagement, retention, and reactivation Build and support growth experimentation infrastructure, including feature flag integration, experiment rollout controls, and exposure logging Partner with Growth PMs and product teams to launch and measure in-product experiments quickly and safely Ensure notification and experiment systems are observable, reliable, and easy to use Help define guardrails so lifecycle and experiment programs remain compliant with privacy and Trust & Safety standards Improve the feedback loop between experiment results, user behavior signals, and product decisions

What you bring to the table

Strong backend or platform engineering experience building reliable, scalable systems Experience with notification systems, messaging infrastructure, or lifecycle platforms Experience supporting product experimentation, feature flags, or A/B testing systems Familiarity with event-driven systems, queues, APIs, and service reliability Strong judgment around user experience, notification quality, privacy, and guardrails Ability to work cross-functionally with Product, Data, and Engineering teams Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where speed and reliability both matter
