Protective Security Consultant Job Description We are seeking a Physical Security Consultant to support a range of protective security projects, including Security‑by‑Design (SBD) work required under the Infrastructure Protection Act, as well as broader security design, planning, and risk assessment engagements. This role involves leading security risk assessments, developing security master plans, providing technical design specifications, and managing stakeholder relationships with client.

Key Responsibilities

Leading Security-by-Design (SBD) and IPA Compliance Work Preparing SBD reports, documentation, and regulatory submissions. Conduct preliminary research on protective security requirements for various project types. Act as the subject matter expert (SME) in applying security-by-design principles to architectural, structural, and mechanical/electrical (M&E) drawings during early project stages. Develop comprehensive physical and electronic security concepts (CCTV, access control, perimeter barriers) for critical infrastructure Oversee the integration of electronic security systems with building management systems Preparing design briefs, technical specifications, layout reviews, and integration plans for systems such as access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and protective barriers. Review architectural, structural, and M&E drawings to identify security considerations and integration needs.

Risk & Vulnerability Assessment

Conducts Threat Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (TVRA) to produce risk registers and identify security weaknesses. Protective Security Design: Develops physical and electronic security concepts, including access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems, preparing design briefs and technical specifications.

Strategic Advisory

Provides high-level security advice and policy writing, covering security operations, personnel security, and security intelligence. Compliance & Audit: Reviews architectural plans and ensures security measures meet regulatory requirements.

Project Management & Coordination

Liaises with clients and project teams to implement security plans, often integrating security into multi-disciplinary projects. Project Coordination & Technical Support Track project deliverables, prepare meeting minutes, and maintain organised project documentation. Coordinate with architects, engineers, operators, and security system vendors. Assist in tender evaluations, proposal reviews, and solution comparisons. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Successful submission and approval of SBD/IPA documentation within project timelines. Identification of security design risks early in the development lifecycle. Client satisfaction in security consulting outcomes.

Qualifications

Degree in Security Management, Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or related fields. At least 5 years of experience in physical security, building design, facilities operations, or security technology Strong interest in protective security design, security risk assessment, and regulatory security work. Strong understanding of security planning principles, physical security systems, and risk assessment methodologies. Good analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.

Certifications: Preferred

Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or similar certifications. Typical Competencies Strategic thinking and the ability to design security for commercial/critical infrastructure. Ability to manage complex integration efforts and mentor junior staff. Proficiency in designing protective measures (e.g., blast mitigation, physical barriers, security lighting). Strong leadership and team management capabilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
